This guide, created by Gwendolyn Reece at American University, provides instructions on how to request an absentee ballot for the U.S. general election being held November 5, 2024.
California is a VOTE BY MAIL state. When you register, you will put your temporary address in the field for the address where you receive mail. NOTE: Every time you move, if you want your mail sent to a new address, you need to update your mailing address: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration/
If you are already registered and want to change your address by phone, call 916-653-6814.
Voting
By mail: Ballots must be postmarked by Election day and received no later than three days after the election
If you are a first time voter, you will have to include your official California ID number (Driver's license or non-driver's ID) or the last 4 digits of your social security number.
