Requesting an Absentee Ballot 2024

As of June 13, 2024 

Registration

• Verify your Registration: https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/Home/VoterLogin
• Register to Vote:  https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/Pages/OnlineVoterRegistration.aspx
  • If you send in the paper form, you must include a copy of your state picture ID
  • If submitting electronically, you must have a LA Driver's license and enter the 4 digit code labeled AUDIT on the front of the license.

Requesting a Ballot

• Excuse needed:  Living outside of your parish to attend higher education is one acceptable, but you need to enclose a picture of your student ID or tuition bill if it is your first time voting
• Forms:  Online: https://voterportal.sos.la.gov
  • Click the "Search By Voter" button.
  • Type in your First Name, Last Name, Zip Code and Birth Month and Year and then click the "Submit" button;
  • Click the "Request Absentee Ballot" link found under the Quick Links heading; and
  • Complete requested information and submit.
• Print form to mail: https://www.sos.la.gov/ElectionsAndVoting/PublishedDocuments/GeneralApplicationForAbsenteeByMailBallot.pdf
  • Mail to appropriate Parish Registrar: https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/registrar

Voting

• Ballot must be RECEIVED on the day BEFORE the  election - if you want to deliver by hand, please contact your County Registrar for information: https://voterportal.sos.la.gov/registrar
• Witness signature required
• Your signature needs to match the signature on file with the state (e.g. if you use a middle initial or not)

• Please pay attention to the postage required.- it may be more than a single stamp
