The Arabian American Oil Company known as ARAMCO carried out oil operations in Saudi Arabia under a concession agreement with that country's government. The company is owned by four major U.S. oil firms, Texaco, Inc.; Standard Oil of California; Standard Oil of New Jersey; and Socony Mobil. Papers of Mulligan: This archive is highly significant for the history of ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia during the period 1946 to 1978. Papers of Mohan: concerning ARAMCO administration and management, employee recruitment and training, community development, as well as oil production and the waterfront development of Ras Tanura, 1957-1986. Also photographs from other people associated the ARAMCO.

The papers contains technical reports and files from James H. Critchfield's (1917-2003) consulting firm Tetra Tech International regarding its work developing the oil, natural gas, water, and mineral industries in Oman. The reports trace the relationship between Tetra Tech and the Omani government.

The collection includes a great deal on the development of the early oil industry world-wide, as well as in this country. Starting with 1865 book, Petroleum and Petroleum Wells. What Petroleum Is, Where It is Found, and What is Used For.

This journal, a log book of the daily activities of the 232-ton slave ship Mary, documents in detail a voyage undertaken by ship owner and slave trader Cyprian Sterry. The ship set sail from Providence, Rhode Island, on November 22, 1795 and arrived on the west coast of Africa on December 24, 1795. Under the command of Captain Nathan Sterry, the crew acquired and then subdued African men, women, and children at several ports along the Senegambia, the Windward Coast, and Gold Coast. It departed the coast of Africa with 142 African men, women, and children on June 17, 1796. It arrived in Georgia on August 19, 1796.
