Globalization and forces of economy and war have clearly had an impact on populations and communities in the Middle East and the Mediterranean for many years. We read news releases daily of refugees from battle zones throughout much of the Levant and through Iraq. Realities of global migrations for centuries tell an even larger story. Africans have been on the move since the 1st century and across the Atlantic since the late 15th century; and the recent trends show that populations from West Africa continue to cross over into Europe, while East Africans migrate into Europe and parts of Asia and the Middle East in search of secure labor. The December – January exhibit features key works on these themes.
