We can get you access to most materials at no charge to you.

Do not pay for resources at paywalls - Ask us 1st!

(The one exception to this is many required course textbooks)

Tips for getting the Full Text

Tip #1- Lean Library Browser Extension
Even off campus, having this Extension means when on a website Lean Library detects if Georgetown has access to the content.
If we do - you get it!
If we don't - it gives you an ILL option AND fills in the form for you!

Tip #2 - Access Resources THROUGH Lauinger Library

You may be used to accessing things through your bookmarks, Google, or another tool, but then that site may not be able to tell you are at Georgetown, so you hit paywalls. When you go to a database or resource through a link from the library's webpages - like this Guide - our Proxy software kicks in, so it knows you are from Georgetown.

You get access to the full text we subscribe to
For things we don't - you get an InterLibrary Loan Button that allows you to request the item, without typing in the citation yourself.
- ILL Articles usually come in 24 hours, and some may come as quickly as 4-12 hours

Tip #3 - Add the GU Proxy Extension
*Only Needed Off Campus
Installing this extension allows you to click the a GU Proxy Button, which then reloads whatever page you are on so that you are identified as a Georgetown user with access to our resources.

Note: GU Proxy won't work for Free or Open Access resources. If you use it on those, you may get a "site not configured" error -- instead, just go directly to the site without using ProxyGU button
Tip#4 - More Info on Accessing Resources Off Campus
Here you will find more information and strategies for accessing resources off campus

When you want an ENTIRE book:

If Georgetown owns the Book as an Ebook - using the library catalog or the Tips on the previous tab should allow you access
If you are not in the library catalog - and we own the print book - you may need to search the title in the catalog to get the location and call#
If Georgetown does not own the book try one of these strategies:
1. Consortial Loan - Go through the library catalog and search our consortial partners - loans from them come pretty fast
2. ILL a Chapter - Pick the Chapter you need most - request that chapter via Interlibrary Loan - remember to choose the Book Chapter Form. That will come in around 24hrs. Then put in an ILL request for the entire book - and that will come in an average of 5-10 days
3. Possible Purchase - Check with your Professor to see if it is something that they would recommend the library purchase. If they send me the request and give your name, we can often get it quickly and place it on hold for you. If it is available as an Ebook, it may be super fast.
