Once you've found the call number for a book you're interested in, the next step is to locate the book in the library. For instance, let's say you're interested in reading Daniel Horowitz's Happier?: The History of a Cultural Movement that Aspired to Transform America.
You can find the book's call number using HoyaSearch. Once you have that call number, see the table below or consult the Lauinger Library Call Number Locations by Floor page to learn where your book lives in the library.
Call Number Ranges | Lauinger Floor Location |
---|---|
A - DD | First Floor |
DE - F | Second Floor |
G - PN | Fourth Floor |
PQ - ZA | Fifth Floor |
The book we're looking for has HN57 .H59 2018 as a call number. Because HN falls in between G and PN, this book will be shelved on the Fourth Floor of Lauinger. The floor maps (individually linked above) provide a more detailed view of where which books are located.
Once you are on the correct floor of the library, look at the call number ranges posted on the end of each range of books to identify which aisle to go down.
Once you have identified the correct aisle, navigate to the call number for the book. Pro Tip: Once you've found the specific book, the library recommends browsing the books next to it on the shelf as well as above and below it as you will likely find other books relevant to your research question in that same area.
Note: To learn more about reading call numbers, please see the Reading Call Numbers page of the guide.
Now that you have the book in hand, you can take it to the Circulation Desk on the 3rd floor of Lauinger to check the book out using your GoCard.
Happy reading!
