This page collects sources of climate, weather, and other types of data that can support analytical research. Many data sources are government and science agencies that report information in order to support policy- and decision-making.
Climate Change Data Sources
- NOAA National Centers for Environmental InformationNCEI provides access to a significant archive of comprehensive oceanic, atmospheric, and geophysical data. The "Access" tab allows users to explore datasets by category, including climate monitoring, extreme weather events, models, land and satellite observations, interactive maps, and more.
- NOAA Climate.gov Maps & DataAccess a visual catalog of NOAA climate datasets with reusable maps and a Climate Data Primer that explains the instruments used to measure weather and climate; how weather observations relate to climate products; how climate scientists check the quality of observations, and tools you can use for exploring climate data
- IPCC Data Distribution CentreThe Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) gathers and provides access to climate, socioeconomic, and environmental data (observed and projected scenarios) that underlie international climate impacts assessments.
- NASA EARTHDATANASA maintains this portal to connect users to Earth observation datasets, data services, and analysis tools. Of special interest is the NASA Global Change Master Directory.
- Data Observation Network for Earth (DataONE)DataONE makes it easy to search across the collections of almost 40 repositories of Earth observation data.
- NCAR Research Data ArchiveThe National Center for Atmospheric Research (sponsored by the National Science Foundation) provides public science data and web services.
- U.S. Energy Information Administration: EnvironmentEIA is the statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy, providing data, analysis, and projections.
- OpenEIOpenEI s a trusted source of energy data, specifically for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
- SERVIR DataSERVIR (a collaboration of NASA, USAID, and other international partners) provides datasets, a geoportal with GIS data layers, and satellite imagery that support environmental decision-making in developing nations in Africa, Hindu Kush-Himalaya, Southeast Asia, and Mesoamerica.
- OECD: Environment DataAccess this platform to download OECD datasets on air, climate, forests, waste, and water.
- DataRefuge CatalogDataRefuge is a public, collaborative project dedicated to preserving and distributing reliable copies of federal climate and environmental data so that it remains available to researchers.
