Why do we need to cite all our sources?  Your work, even as a student, is part of the scholarly conversation. Citations are what allow that conversation and exchange of ideas to work across time and space. 

There are two primary reasons for citing sources in a research paper: 

1. To give credit to the authors whose work you have drawn upon

2. To allow readers to track down your sources, so other scholars can see & use your evidence themselves

If you need to use a Citation Style not listed here, such as ACS, AMA, CSE, etc. Please contact the Librarian for your course for assistance using that citation style.

Zotero 

 Tips ~ When Zotero doesn't caputure all the citation details 

This is not Zotero's mistake - but because the metadata was not visible in the source you were using.  You can usually correct it by finding another place to download the citation. Here are some ways to do that:

• HoyaSearch - Search for the title of your item in Hoya Search - this works most of the time for Books, Articles or other Published items.
  • Put your title in quotation marks
  • Click the option to expand your search beyond Georgetown
• Google  - Search for the title of your item - in quotation marks in Google - avoid results with PDF indicated in the results. 
• WorldCat - Search the WorldCat Database (find in A-Z list) -This is 50,000+ library catalogs combined.  
• Manual - Enter the info manually into Zotero as a last resort.
