"Anna Celenza, Georgetown University professor of music, conducted the census, which aimed to measure D.C.’s music economy, in partnership with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office and music data specialists. Celenza presented the initial findings of the census at The Music Policy Forum Summit on Oct. 26, an annual summit held at Georgetown to connect musicians, industry leaders and policymakers." The Advisory Neighborhood Commissions present neighborhood input to branches of the DC government on issues such as traffic, parking, zoning, economic development, police protection, and the city's annual budget.
Public and private organizations, agencies, and citizen volunteers which are collaborating to advance completion of an interconnected network of multi-use trails for metropolitan Washington, D.C. (District of Columbia, City of Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax counties in Virginia, and Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in Maryland).
"The Consortium is a coalition of 30 member organizations, all of which provide direct legal services to low-income DC residents. The Consortium's mission is to coordinate the delivery, expand the availability and improve the quality of legal services and advocacy for poor and disadvantaged people and groups of people in the District of Columbia."
Business, professional, education, and civic leaders make up the Council, established in 1954 to work on improving DC. The non-profit "played a critical role in the creation of Metro, the renovation of Union Station, the establishment of the Verizon Center, and the redevelopment of Pennsylvania Avenue."
These maps are the result of a NOAA-funded project to map the places where people are most at risk during extreme heat. Volunteers drove along designated routes through each city on two consecutive days to collect temperature data. Oct. 2018
