Audio and Podcasting Projects

Why Accessibility?

A transcript is a written document of speech or audio that is converted into text. Why should you make your podcast and audio files accessible by providing a transcript? The main reason you should consider making accessible options available is to make sure people with disabilities can access your content. Deaf or hard of hearing, providing access to a podcast transcript can mean the difference in whether a specific audience can consume your content.

Other Considerations for Including a Transcript:

There are other audience types that may benefit from having your audio content be accessible as a transcript.

  • Non-native speakers: someone for whose primary language is not of the podcast may find it easier to follow along by reading a transcript.
  • People in noisy environments or who may not have access to headphones/speakers.
  • People who read faster: While some platforms will allow you to speed up an audio recording, other individuals may read faster.
  • Weak connections or poor bandwidth: Not everyone has the benefit of high-speed internet access.
  • Including text-based versions of your podcast can also offer SEO benefits and boost a podcast’s discoverability on search engines.
