WRIT 1150 (Tarsa): Writing & Culture Seminar

Fall 2024

AI Tools

Prompt Generation

Unlike searching library databases, which work best when we combine specific concepts as keywords in our searches, many artificial intelligence tools respond better to written out scenarios, which specify particular roles, responses, and parameters in narrative form.

Example Prompt Language

Initial Prompt

I am <your role / identity> who is writing a persuasive paper about <insert topic>. What types of sources would be considered compelling evidence to <specific audience>?

Follow-Up Prompts

  • Are there any types of information that would be considered less persuasive to my audience?
  • Are there any types of sources that would be considered less credible to my audience?
  • What source types should I focus on instead?

Evaluating AI-Generated Sources

Evaluating AI-Generated Sources
1. Identify
  • What source(s) has the AI tool pointed you you? This may be a full or a partial citation.
2. Search
3. Decide
  • Does the source exist?
  • If not, were any aspects of the citation correct?
4. Find or Move On
  • If the source is real, does Georgetown have access to it?
  • If the source is a hallucination, did your investigation reveal a more reliable source for the topic?
