Citation Examples in Chicago Style

The Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.) lists the following elements needed for citing artworks (section 14:235):

  • artist
  • title of the work (in italics)
  • date of creation or completion
  • information about the medium
  • location of the work
  • add a URL if you found it online

For the objects you are working with, you may need to make some adaptations.

Here are examples:

Master of the Leopard Hunt. Relief Plaque: Amufi Acrobats. Benin Kingdom, Nigeria, 16th-17th century. Brass, 43.5 x 37.5  x 4 cm  (17 x  14 x 2"). The National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Nigeria.
