The DMPTool is essentially a series of fillable web forms that walk you through the process of creating a data management plan step-by-step. If you’re creating the plan for a grant that requires one, you can select the funder, and the DMPTool will walk you through a custom template tailored specifically for that funder’s requirements so you ensure your data management plan meets all the expectations. But general templates are also available if you don't have a funder or yours isn't listed. If you sign into the DMPTool with your Georgetown NetID, you’ll automatically see Georgetown-specific guidance in the sidebar as you work through any of the DMPTool templates. You can also turn on guidance from other institutions, if they’ve created it, which can be helpful if you have collaborators from other universities.

As datasets become an increasingly important research output, the need for effective attribution tools and practices grows, too. Georgetown University Library supports ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), an organization that can help you manage your professional identity. Sign up for your own unique identifier, and then use it to connect your works across your career. This will also contribute to enabling appropriate data attribution, and ORCID identifiers integrate with tools like DataCite and figshare.

Georgetown faculty and staff who have advanced data storage or database administration/hosting needs can contact University Information Services. They can provide managed server hosting, data centers, high-performance computing access, and other services.
