The Index records works of Christian art produced without geographical limitations from early apostolic times up to A.D. 1550. The database presently contains nearly 80,000 work of art records which are accompanied by over one-hundred thousand images in color and black and white. It covers predominantly western art in 17 different media, according to five broad subjects: figures, scenes, nature, objects, and miscellany.

Text can be searched by theme or country. Statistics can be searched by title and theme. Statistical databases allow users to build their own tables from the latest data, draw graphs and tables, and download to Excel or as .csv files.
