Mental Illness and Compounded Vulnerability

This website investigates how the label of mental illness can compound vulnerabilities in historically disadvantaged populations. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is one such label. We offer proposals for the APA and DSM Committees.

Biological Focus

The way that women and professionals describe PMDD, there is a heavy emphasis on the biological root of the disorder. This myopic focus in the video on "The Biology Behind PMDD" (top video, middle column) seems to totally ignore how researchers are investigating social determiners (e.g. past and present abuse history) as a potential causal variable in PMDD.
