GOVT 4421: Asian American Politics in Comparative Perspective

Using archival materials and oral history interviews, ‘Remaking Britain’ will analyse and showcase how British South Asian connections have been documented, remembered and narrated, as well as highlight how South Asian people and communities have effected social, political and economic change across the period.

This Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded follow-on project expands and builds on the success of the 3-year research project ‘Making Britain: South Asian Visions of Home and Abroad’ (2007-10). Profiling visual and archival sources in international collections, Beyond the Frame highlights the numerous ways in which South Asians positioned themselves within British society and culture and explores the significance of their impact on British life.

The SADAA digital archive (previously, SALIDAA) covers five subject areas: literature, visual arts, theatre, dance and music. It features a wide variety of text-based and visual material. All relate to the substantial body of work produced by South Asian writers, artists, performers and musicians in England from 1947 onwards.

The Asian Youth Movements formed in the United Kingdom in the 1970s, as second generation South Asian people mobilised against racism. Following on from our articles on Black Lives Matter and the early UK Black Panther movement, we take a closer look at their membership, their aims and campaigns, and their legacy within the UK today.

The Black and Asian Studies Association (BASA; till October 1997 ASCACHIB) was formed in 1991. The aim of the Association is to foster research and to disseminate information on the history of Black peoples in Britain. A Newsletter was published three times a year until 2013.

Southeast and East Asian Centre (SEEAC) is a community organisation run by and for migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers from Southeast and East Asia, as well as people of these heritages living in the UK.
