This course guide is for WGST 239: Culture, Medicine, and Gender in summer 2020.

Searching in Proquest Central

Proquest Central includes a lot of top medical journals, such as: Journal of American Medicine (JAMA), New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and Canadian Medical Association Journal. Because Proquest Central includes a lot of extras (working papers, blogs, podcasts, conference papers, magazines, etc.) you need to use filters.

1. Type your search terms into Proquest Central

Play with "and" and "or" and use quotes to keep two words together

2. Use filters to narrow down your results

3. Evaluate your results

What journal was the article published in? What year? What can you glean from the abstract? What blue subject terms are assigned to the article? Is the full text available?

4. Save the PDF

If the full text of the article is not available, click on "Find Full text @GU." This will take you into HoyaSearch to look for access.  If you cannot find full text access to the article, request it from Interlibrary Loan
