Getting help with the Kindle
Reserving and Borrowing Kindle Readers
Any Georgetown faculty, student or staff with a valid GoCard can now borrow a Kindle Fire or Kindle DX from the Gelardin New Media Center in Lauinger Library for a loan period of 4 weeks. Before using the Library Kindle you must register it with your own personal Kindle account to access free or purchased titles.
Reserving a Kindle
To reserve a Kindle, call 202-687-7410 or email gelardin@georgetown.edu. Please tell us when you would like to pick it up (the day and time) when we are open. Based on availability, we will confirm the reservation by email.
Borrowing a Kindle
Kindle Readers are available for checkout from the Gelardin New Media Center Service Desk (1st floor) Lauinger Library on a first-come, first-served basis and may be borrowed for 4 weeks. To borrow a Kindle, you must have a valid GoCard.
You are responsible for loss, theft, or damage to the Kindle and accessories. The Kindle must be returned to the New Media Center Service Desk during the hours we are open.
Fines and Fees
Late return of Kindles is $1.00 per HOUR. There has been an extremely positive response to the Kindle loans resulting in back-to-back reservations several months into the future. For this reason, we need to get Kindles back when they are due so that other users are not inconvenienced.
Users will be assessed a fine equal to the replacement cost if the Kindle is lost, stolen, or not returned. Damage charges will be assessed based on the actual repair cost. Replacement costs for the following will be:
- Kindle DX $379.00
- Kindle Fire $200
- USB cable $13.00
- Power adapter $15.00
- Slip cover $25.00
