Why Books?

  • In-depth coverage and broader context than journal articles
  • Use the table of contents and the index (in the back of the book) to locate your topic
  • Search HoyaSearch to find books by keyword, subject, title, or author
    • Select GU Only to identify books at Georgetown
    • Select Available Online to identify ebooks

Where Art Books are Located

  • Most art books are shelved in the N call numbers. (fourth floor)
    • N call numbers arrange books by art medium
      • N - Visual Arts
      • NA - Architecture
      • NB - Sculpture
      • NC - Drawing, Design, Illustration
      • ND - Painting
      • NE - Print Media
      • NK - Decorative Arts
      • NX - Arts General
    • Books on an artist who works in different media will be scattered throughout the N's.
  • Large-sized books are labeled Quarto and Folio in HoyaSearch.  These are shelved on the second floor and can be borrowed.
  • Photography books are usually in the TR call numbers (fifth floor)
  • Museum studies books are located on the first floor, in the AM section.
